Non-Gaming Game News For the Week Ending January 20th

Prototype 2 in the comics, Remedy's "Alan Wake Merchandise Idea Challenge," brains are what's for dinner at Capcom's Tokyo bar, and more make up this week's non-gaming game news.

Radical Entertainment and Dark Horse Prototype comic on the way in February

Providing a bridge between the first and upcoming second Prototype games, Dark Horse and the game's developer Radical Entertainment have produced a digital comic which will hit biweekly February 15th, allowing you to catch up with the first game's hero, Alex Mercer and the sequel's protagonist, Sgt. James Heller. We've got the synopsis and the first look a the series here:

The all-new digital comic series will be broken into three original stories that bridge the gap between the original blockbuster game and the highly anticipated sequel, PROTOTYPE 2. The first entry, ?The Anchor,? illustrated by Paco D?az, continues the story of Alex Mercer, the protagonist from the first game, while the second story, "The Survivors," illustrated by Chris Staggs, follows a small group of residents of New York trying to escape the city after it has been transformed into NYZ with the outbreak of the Blacklight virus.

The third and final story, illustrated by Victor Drujiniu, is "The Labyrinth" and provides fans a deeper look into the backstory of PROTOTYPE 2?s new protagonist, Sgt. James Heller. Each comic in the series will be available at Digital.Darkhorse.com every other week beginning February 15, 2012.

Tokyo's Capcom Bar's gaming Menu

With the Capcom Bar opening in Tokyo later this month, the publisher has released images of some of the items that will be on their theme restaurant's menu. The Anime News Network has some of the preview images from the gaming-related menu which has selections from Monster Hunter, Sengoku Basara, and of course, Resident Evil and Phoenix Wright. While that little mound of brain looks a little too gimmicky and processed to be appetizing, and yet there's something strangely appetizing about the "Well-done meat."

Remedy wants your Alan Wake swag ideas

Over on the game's Facebook page, Remedy has been soliciting users' best ideas for their "Alan Wake Merchandising Challenge," a contest where fans of the series can submit their ideas for the best tie-in merchandise to win... a pile of Alan Wake merchandise. The contest is currently running through December 31st and the results are being voted up and down by the community.

My suggestion: the box of unspeakable darkness and horror, a sealed box filled with unspeakable darkness and horror. Retails for $99.99.

Oh, Videogames is your look back at the embarrassing history of covers

Okay, yeah it's cheap and easy humor to poke fun at the wonderful absurdity of videogame covers of the past, but it's also really, really funny. Oh, Videogames is a Tumblr blog devoted to showing off the long, tragic history of game marketing. They're not all actually bad, but the predominant theme seems to be selling something that wasn't quite the game.

I will say the posts devoted to surf and skating action games makes me wish those kind of colorful sports titles were still a thing.
