East Peoria roundabout officially open, Mayor says don't be confused

EAST PEORIA, Ill -- East Peoria officials say they are making huge progress on the downtown development project.

East Peoria Mayor Dave Mingus said this project has been more than 10 years in the making.

Friday night, officials gathered to celebrate the completion one more piece of the puzzle, the roundabout located in the heart of the new downtown area.

This is the first roundabout in East Peoria and some have found it confusing.

Mayor Mingus said it will get better with time, "I think the simple thing is to just come down now, when its not so congested. And the other thing is to just relax and watch the signs and everything is pretty self-explanatory. The anxiety might be a little more dangerous than the roundabout itself."

Mayor Mingus adds more than 100,000 square foot of development is still taking place.
